As more people are responding to the need for more inclusive design, we need to make sure we understand the symbols we are given, and what they mean. When we talk about gender, race or disability, for example, are we thinking about the rich set of identities inside, across and between those labels, or do we allow ourselves to reconstruct the same stereotypes we're struggling against? A product inclusion veteran outlines some of the obstacles individuals and organizations encounter, and proposes a path forward.
Matt May is Adobe’s head of inclusive design.
